about

DRLCTS.

What’s in a name? In this case, a bunch of words for this bizarre ass acronym. I’ll let you figure it out if you don’t know already.

What’s in a crew? Good people and good friends. Dundidit, Raja, and Riegs not only cultivated enduring friendships but also enduring music. Honestly, some of the best laughs and best times, in general. Creating with some of your best friends is something I hope everyone is able and lucky enough to do, regardless of the medium.

This will be the final installment of the DRLCTS catalogue. For those that don’t know, our dear friend and bandmate, Raj, passed away in March of 2021. Dundidit and I felt it was right to do one last project and then wrap it up. It isn’t the same group if we aren’t all involved.

Dundidit supplied the entire musical landscape for one last project. As usual, he created beautiful, fun, heartfelt music for your ears and our words. The beats you’ll hear are mostly pieces that he constructed and composed while Raj was here with us. Some we had in our possession to write to and some not, others tweaked slightly, but all have the connection of being made in the DRLCTS era. It really carries on from the first album’s sound and energy and seamlessly skips us ahead to the present day. Round of applause for the greatness that Dundidit has constantly created and supplied us with, he is a force.

The lyrics on this were all written and recorded in a very short time frame immediately following Raj’s passing. Most of the album was completed in 2021 with some bits and pieces coming later. I think we felt an urgency to capture a lot of different feelings before time inevitably fades certain things. When I wrote lyrics for this album, I kept in mind not only how I feel about things, but the way Raj did as well. I wanted to tap in to and convey some of Raj’s vibe to the best of my ability. I used certain words that I knew he gravitated towards in raps and in conversation. I hit small pockets of flow I had heard him use, and most of all, we tried to include our collective vibe throughout. It was a huge thing for Raj to inject vibes and energy and honestly was to all of us. The curation of vibes was talked about often. We hope you catch some of them in this project
- good, bad, and weird.

We had a few verses of Raj in the tuck. You will hear his voice sprinkled on this project a few times; unfortunately, you’ll mostly hear me (sorry!). Raj was gallivanting around the world with his family and selling art, and I only managed to get him to record a few verses during one of his visits. Dundidit had some Raj vocals as well and you hear those used as a stand-alone acappella on the album. Allllll of that is what ya got on this self-titled DRLCTS album.

All good things must come to an end… For real?
You’ll still see the DRLCTS name on everything we ever made together; however, the band name for us is now done with this project.
I guess, in a way, it never ends. The music will live on, right? Energy keeps going. Energy is vibration. Vibes are curated by us, then interpreted by us as individuals, then as a group, and then given back to you, from us; our gift to you. That’s what DRLCTS was and shall remain to be – a vibe.

Peace and Love to you.

Riegs, on behalf of DRLCTS.
